The Past - Bell Ringer April 6 through April 10

Read and think about what the following statement below is saying.  Then, respond to the statement by explaining how and why you agree or disagree with the statement. You MAY NOT use "I feel," "I think," "I believe," "In my opinion," "I agree," or "I disagree," in your response.  In order to receive FULL credit, your response must --
   1) be at least five to seven sentences, and
   2) contain one outside quote that supports your reasoning.

Assignment
Respond to the following statement:
Our past dictates who we become in our future.

Use the following as an example of an appropriately formatted and adequate response related to a different quote:
Everybody follows an example left behind by others. This is most likely the reason why when a famous person does something his or her "fan" group does the same and follows. If an actor was to wear Versace glasses their fan base would more than likely wear Versace glasses. It's like a trend going viral; everyone wants to conform to others and how they act or present themselves.  Peter Lindenbergh said it best when he stated "...they follow trends and they don't know why."

Once you have crafted your response, click on the orange Comments link below, type out your response.  Make sure your response meets the requirements for FULL credit, click on the dropbox that says Comment As, go down to Name/URL, in the Name box type in your first initial, last name and class period (i.e. KEwing1C), leave the URL box blank, click on preview and proofread your response and then hit publish once you are ready to submit your response.  PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR NAME IS ON YOUR RESPONSE (i.e. KEwing1C). You will receive a message indicating once your response has been approved it will be published so please do not look for your response immediately after you publish.  Please screenshot your response in case your computer freezes or there is a glitch in the system that requires you to resubmit.  Any questions or concerns send a message in Google Classroom.

  1. Your past does dictate who you will become in the future, but its only if you let it. If you live focused on the past and not the present it can wear you down and make you want to give up. Alsp thinking about the negative things from the past, that you moved on from, can keep your confidence high knowing that you overcame bad times.

  2. To some, their past might be their full focus. However ,your past doesn't dictate your future. Your future is decided by how you deal with the things that come to you in life. Your past doesn't shape your future, only you can do that. Bill keane said it best. "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of god, which is why we call it the present."

  3. The past in some words prevents our actions from repeating its steps. The past influences us to try different outcomes to discover the best way to improve the future. For example, if a child does anything wrong that will get them punished; they will then remember not to do the same behavior or outcome again. Like Mahatma Gandhi stated, "The future depends on what we do in the present."

  4. Our past does dictate our future because those things we did before will turn into habits, sometimes good and sometimes bad. The past may also come with traumatizing events, such as death or critical injury, so it might make you want to give up on everything or motivate you to try your best at everything you do. The past can also be used as a learning tool for you future. For Example , let's say u got in trouble at school for talking out of term and the teacher calls your parents, by the teacher doing that, in the future you will only talk when you are supposed to. Have you ever heard the phrase "Leave the past in the past"? It hard to do that sometimes because you always will have memories...

We learn from our past, so we can hopefully make our future better.

  6. Following a certain belief was most likely established by people in the past. Many of our daily actions come from before our time. This statement is greatly shown by our traditions, especially in religion. We still follow ideas that are hundreds of years old, only because they were practiced by our ancestors. New ideas could easily change this, but we choose not to. As many say, "tradition is just peer pressure from dead people." We as humans have a habit to follow paths that have already been walked.

  7. Everyday people make choices that may affect the rest of their life. One is not a good person for picking up trash, just as someone who liters isn't a bad person.A mistake in a person's past does not define one's present character. As shown when Jermaine Wilson,a former felon, turned his life around to become city commissioner. As Ben Okri beautifully stated,"Our future is greater than our past".

  8. Our past dictates who we become in the future, it's what drives us to become who we are. Like for example, all those kids who grew up in a broken childhood full of poverty. Most of the time those kids work themselves and study in order for them to have a excellent career and a good adulthood in their future. Or the other kids who grew up in a bad environment and ended up being involved in crime, like drug deals, in order to make money. Like Selena Gomez said, "Just because the past didn't turn out like you wanted it to, doesn't mean your future can't be better than you ever imagined.

  9. Our past dictates who we become in the future. What we are doing right now is shaping what we do in the future. Although we might have made mistakes in the past we should let it affect how we are. Instead we can learn from them. We can take what we've been through in the past and use it for what we do in the present like Shannon L. Adler has said “ Forget what hurt you in the past, but never forget what it taught you.”

  10. The way we were raised, taught, and acknowledged, has huge impacts on the type of person we are later on in life. Most of us go through hardships as children and our mindsets grow quickly to be mature at an early age. Everything and anything indicates who we will be in upcoming times, why is why we should make every moment count now and shape our future selves to be a good person then.

  11. Our past doesnt always have complete control of us. Our past can make it harder to get where we want to be in the future, but it does not dictate it. Just because you come from a certain background, doesnt mean you have a certain future aligned to you, but it doesnt make it easy. An example would be if you come from a low income family. That is your past, but it doesnt have to dictate what your future can be. You can be successful. There has been people that come out of poverty to be doctors, artists, lawyers, ect.Yes, its difficult, but it doesnt have to dictate what your future can be.Abraham Lincon said ¨The best way to predict the future, is to make it¨

  13. i disagree , our past does not dictates who we become in the future because the past is all about mistakes and how we learn from them and become a better person overall. learning from our mistakes and doing wizer choices is what is all about that dictates how our future will be.

  14. Our past gives us a perception on certain future choices we make and it gives us understanding as to how things work or why things happen. However it does not completely dictate our future because there are obstacles that have not crossed our paths and we are constantly learning new things. Our past does have a big part on future choices but we are the ones who must enact our future. We must pursue what we believe in and bridge a new future and set aside our past. For we are who truly represents ourselves, now what we've done before, but what we are doing now. "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams"- Eleanor Roosevelt

  15. Past performance is not necessarily a sign of future results. However everything you've experienced in a lifetime has brought you to this point and shaped your thought process. You make most of your life decisions based on those you look up to or admire. Social media plays a big role in one future and decisions. Generations are constantly following and listening to what social media tells us what is in trend and what should we be doing or following. Big Boi said " There's so many lies being told throughout the media and people just run with the lies...."

  16. You are who you are today because of every step you've taken the get where you are. You are who you are because of every choice that you made and every choice that was made for you. Your yesterday determines who you are tomorrow, but only you choose how. A lot of people like to say "my past does not determine my future" that's great but fundamentally that statement isn't true. Every choice you have made and everything that has happened to you is why you are where you are today. Your past choices and experiences will shape who you have become and ultimately who you will become. My great grandma always tell me "your past can either be a launching pad or quick sand, you choose what it is to you." A wise guy one stated "that past, shapes your future, learn and move on with new wisdom."

    ReplyDelete
  17. I agree with this statement because for a person to want to move on with their life to begin their future, they have to start somewhere. For a person to want and hope for something better in their life they have to remember where they came from in order to do better. When a person decides that they want better for themselves its because they are trying to be better from what they already know which is something in their past. Eleanor Roosevelt one said, "The Future Belongs to Those Who believe in the beauty of their dreams." This quote means that the sky is the limit to whoever wishes, right? Yes it does, but because our dreams allow us to want better. our dreams are built upon this creation for wanting something better but because your past dictates what happens in your life. that's why people always say, " a person can only dream." Because were so use to living in a reality where our past and our parents past and so on tell us what ans who were gonna be.

  18. The past can dictate your future, and help you grow as a person, on so many levels. If your past was full of greatness, and now you’re not in the best of places, focus on how you felt in the past and find every reason to better yourself and get back on top. On the other hand if you have experienced misery in the past that’s more of a reason to fight for your future and achieve greatness. Everything you have to do is focus on your goal, and use your past as fuel, to never give up. Your past is a bank of experiences, it just depends on how you use it. As filmmaker Casey Neistat said “Look back at your life. It’s always the hardest times that made you who you are.”

  19. The past will always influence the way you think. It serves as a reflection of the things we've done and either regret or are proud of. It dictates who you are as a person because your past experiences will change the type of person you'll become. It is best to not let the past define you but to take the opportunity to improve yourself the way you would like to. The past strives us to challenges ourselves to become the best person we can be and be successful in life. As Ziad K. Abdelnour once said, "Never erase your past. It shapes who you are today and will help you to be the person you'll be tomorrow."

  20. when you've done something that you did or didn't like it will affect you in life. whether you change from that, or you proceed to grow. if you changed or didn't it gave you an option to stay where you're at, or become better. lets say if you made a really bad decision and you decided to steal. after that you either wanna continue and let that bring you down. if you stop you can learn from your mistake and change your actions. if you choose the better path, you'll then know why yo got to where you're at. thats what ankesh mishra meant when she said "the past is in your head, the future is in you hands."

  21. We cannot predict the future, but we can change it. We should not be entangled to the string of fate. We have the potential to become significant by going out of line. Like Alyson Noel said “ Our past may shape us, but it does not define who we become.” Otherwise speaking the past does not choose our destiny, we are given the power to form it into something greater than what was already arranged for us. To grow larger than what was already designed to be made, we might not be able to change the permanent markings, but we can improve and add more to create success.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Our past can dictate what may happen in our future because what might happen in the past can make you a better person in the future. You can learn from your past mistakes and make yourself a better person by doing so. Also it will help you grow and be more mature in situations that might happen in your life. Like Eckhart Tolle said,"the past gives you an identity and the future holds the promise of salvation, of fulfillment in whatever form. Both are illusions.” . He is right because with out the past you wouldn't have any future for you.

  23. The past is an event that happened and can not be changed. Its only a memory that can be forgotten or remembered. Choice is what dictates who we will be in our future. It’s knowing that the present can change the future, as the past can’t, and now is the only time you can change an outcome. The past is only a judgement of what we’ve done, but not what is to come. Our choices led us to where we all are, therefore it is the cause of our future. As Catherine Pulsifer said "Life presents many choices, the choices we make determine our future."RCisneros3A

  24. From my perspective, our past plays a major component in who we become in the future. in this is because of the influences around us. For instance take social trends that affect our hair, clothing, music even are physical characteristics. If NBA Young Boy was wearing some new designer brand, his fan base would most likely follow his lead and wear it to. Henry Miller said "As I look back on my life it seems to me that i never did anything of my own volition but always through the pressure of others."

  25. Just because you've done bad things in your past, doesn't mean you can't shape up in the future. We've all done things that maybe weren't the best, but it's never too late to fix them. If you aren't happy with your past, you can't let it be a mold for your future. Make a new mold for the future you want to have. You're the only one in control of your future.

  26. Future is not certain. Although the consequences of our past actions cannot be avoided, we can avoid being the person we are not. There is time to change and, at the same time, learn from our mistakes. Thus, our past does not dictate who we develop later on in life. Dwayne Johnson summarized my clam by a tweet stating, ¨In 1995, I had seven bucks and knew two things: I am broke as hell and one day I will not be.¨

  27. Louis Mandylor said " Don't let your past dictate who you are, but let it be part of who you become." As you grow up and get older you make mistakes, but its how you learn from them that's important. You cant be at your best when your constantly thinking about your: bad decisions, missteps, and missed opportunities. Some of the greatest people in the world have had a bad past, but they didn't let that stop them from being the best person they could be. You have to take your wins with your losses and keep moving forward into the future.

I agree with this quote because the message i'm getting from it is that what we have done or experienced in the past will reflect on how we behave in the present and future aspects of our lives.

  29. I agree that our past dictates who we become in the future because it shapes our minds and our emotions. Not everyone has the same past they may be similar but not everyone reacts the same way. Some past can be life changing or they can mature a person at a young age.For example, the main character Oscar from the movie "Icebox", his whole childhood was him hiding from the gangs that tried to either to kill him or make him join their gang. It was so bad that he wasn't able to go to school or feel safe at home. So his parents decided to send him to the united states in search of a better future.

  30. what we do now shapes our future and may determine who we become. The experiences and the actions we have now are most likely do to events in our pasts. Hitler who desecrated the nation's democratic institution and transformed germany into a war state, had become what he was because of his childhood. His father beat and humiliated him daily. Hitler's personality was shaped by physical and emotional abuse as a child which led up to him doing terrible things. He wanted to be an artist and live life as a normal person but his father made sure he could never be happy. The events in our past shape us and influence the way we act, think and interact with people.

  31. Everyone has a past. Some had great experiences growing up and many did not. Yet, the amount of successful people who had a difficult pasts continues to grow. If everyone grew up based on their history then things would not change. That child getting beat or the one who watched their parents fight all the time would not be as successful if they dwelled on their bad memories. The past definitely does affect your character and the way you view certain situations, but should never stop you from altering the pattern. If many did not allow themselves to grow past their experiences, success would be less abundant because your past should not dictate who you grow to be. You, and yourself only, can mold your future into what you want it to be. The past is the past so why be trapped in it? The present is now which is what is most valuable. This can be expressed my using Mother Teresa's amazing example as she stated,"Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin".

    ReplyDelete
  32. Our past dictates who we will become in the future due to the experiences we have lived through and our emotions. If we lived a terrible childhood, we wouldn't want the same for our children. Our past sets up what we want our future to look like or not look like through every single positive and negative thing we have been through. "Dear past, thank you for all the lessons.Dear future, I'm now ready," meaning past experiences help live a future life. Our future life is affected by our past, our emotions may be different, our way of interacting with others, and simply just the way we live for the rest of our lives.

Its all about thinking whats better for you and work towards it . As Chiara Gizzi said " let go of the past, but keep the lessons it taught you."

  36. I've always heard people say "the past is the past".Stating about not worrying about the past and focusing more on the present and the future.Although, the past is the key to present. Our past is full with lessons for present and future. We learned from our good and also from our bad experiences. Some people think that we don't need the past to obtain our good future but i think our future is linked with our past. The past gave us lessons that we learned from them, so we won't be able to repeat the same mistakes.Past gives us a way for better future with best decisions.Tony Campolo said "Your past is important but it is not nearly as important to your present as the way you see your future".

  37. I fully agree on our past dictating who we become in future. Our past shapes who we are today by giving us a better understanding of how the world works. Also the choices we make in the past greatly impact how we choose to make new decisions today. For example, in the show "orange is the new black" ( yes ,orange is the new black couldnt think of any ) gives us an insight on how many women made mistakes. One bad desicion ruins how they are seen by everyone .They lose great opportunities because people judge who they were in the past..-Blopez3B

  39. It is true when people state that our past affects our future. This is because all the obstacles and experiences build us. It can have a positive or a negative effect and that is where you can build it from yourself. Like Paulo Coelhe said, "Everything which is done in the present, affects the future by consequence, and the past by redemption". This is very true.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Our past does not dictate who we become in the future. There isn't a designated path chosen for you to walk based solely on your past experiences. What occurred yesterday won't invalidate those choices you make today. Considering, with every decision you make, you will ensure or mend your past choices. Therefore, our future is ever changing. Contrary to your past, it is the present that is within ones control. As Edmund Burke stated, "You can never plan the future by the past."

  42. I disagree because the past influences us and how we see our possibilities but some change and control is possible. This is one of the goals of education, actually. To help people see from different perspectives, to understand their experience differently, to realize different ways of thinking and responding to what we are confronted with. Effort put into these practices allows us to have some control over who we become. The past does not define us as people because the past is constantly changing. In one minute, the current minute becomes the past. We can change now and pave the way for our future. Chris Mentillo: “Don't let your past dictate your future.”

But that was them and I am me, nothing can change this. I will do what I want and follow the path I want to conger for myself.

  44. Our past does not dictate who we become in the future, but rather it is what we decide to do with the past that dictates who we are on the road to becoming. Many will often claim that the circumstances around their past lead to their derailed life, yet for every one of those stories is another proving that their past did not dictate who they became. It is ignorant to blatantly claim that our past ultimately dictates who we become, when there is so much evidence to prove that we can succumb or overcome our past.As No.150 put it"I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant. It is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are."

  45. Our past does decide our future if we let it. Some people find it hard to let go of their past and it slowly starts to decide how their future will go. Overall, the past does not reflect us as human beings to do the things we do now into the future. Like Rick Warren stated '' We are products of our past, but we don't have to be prisoners of it.

  52. Life is a cycle and it teaches us in many ways how theres going to be days where it may go bad or good. The past doesn't define the person you will become later on, unless you allow it . LIfe teaches you how to cope with yourself and how it works by the decisions you make & the experiences you go through. It could go either way only if you put yourself in that position . It also depends on your thoughts because if you allow your past to get to you then your own emotions are controlling you , but you have to control yourself physically and mentally .You learn from the past and how you shouldnt continue making the same mistakes over and over. “Yesterday is gone, Tomorrow has not yet come ,We have only today. It is true when people say our past affects our future. But i'm going to explain to you how your past doesn't define your tomorrow. The past is something that you can never go back and correct or make better, but the future is something that can be changed or better depending on that make it or break it moment. You can break it and allow your past to shape you for your future or you can make it and create a new foundation for yourself. As Edmund Burke stated," You can never plan the future by the past." If you allow your mistakes to hold you back you are letting the past plan you instead of learning from your wrong doings and build a better future.

Almost everyone has gone through things or done things in their past that they aren’t proud of. The quote “you can't start the next chapter if you keep rereading the last one” which indicates that your past shouldn’t influence your future. Just because people have done negative things in the past it doesn’t mean they can’t develop themselves into a better person. Living off the past can only prevent many from succeeding. If you base off your past it can cause a bad influence on great things that come your way.

  56. Have you ever heard the saying , “ forget what hurt you , but never forget what it taught you “ ? Meaning , your past will come with struggles and you will have to fight the thunderstorms but after all of that a rainbow appears. Your past dictates your future because you will always remember what you had to do to get where you are and it helps you not relive it again . For example , slavery . We don't want it to happen so we stopped segregation and started becoming equally the same . However , we will never forget the history so it can never happen again.

  57. To A certain extent i agree that our past dictates who we become in the future. Its our decision how we choose to move into the future. A person who wants to succeed in life is a person who knows about a struggle from past experiences. Our past may not necessarily be something bad but its something that we can look back on or reference to when trying to change for the better. A famous person once said," strength does not come from winning. your struggles develop your strengths. when you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is a strength." To me this quote means that, a person grows and becomes a strong individual once they've gone through something which comes from our past. A person can develop into a victorious person to have a better future because they want to change their life for the better due to their past. I truly agree that our past selves form us into better individuals.

  58. A lot of people tend to believe their past dictates their future because of their dark memories and failed opportunities which is all wrong. People think this is half-wit (dumb) but we should be using this negative past as motivation/ inspiration to go forward in life. As humans have always thrived in survivalization we should put in our heads that our un-wanting past should be the main reason why we hustle; to remind us that we are gonna stay like this, miserable, if we don't act and start doing the path to our own goals/ achievements. People also claim to be "stuck" in their past or life in general which actually means they don't care because they're "comfortable" (in a way of not wanting to mess around with their life or just lazy) with how they're doing in life which prevents their own growth in life, financially and mentally. A lot of people have said this "It depends how you take/respond to your past" which is true but probably haven't said why. The reason "why" it's important is because the true process to success starts with actually doing some type of action instead of just thinking because the people that actually "do" realize that they want to get out of their miserable lives or keep "doing" to not return to those lives. Your past should not dictate to what you become in your future instead it is a preview of what your life can be if you don't that risk you been wanting to achieve. Best said by Steve Harvey, "If you're going through hell, keep going. Why would you stop in hell?".

  59. Our past does not dictates who we become in the future, only if you allow it to. Many people are trap to the past as it is something they can't let go of and that tends to dictates their future. We shouldn’t be trap to our past but rather learn from it and make up for it with our actions and to focus on our present. Like what Chuck Palahniuk "Your past is just a story. And once you realize this, it has no power over you."

  60. Some people may think that our past affects our future, but it doesn't always turn out to be that way. Everyone has a chance to shape their future and follow their own path. We all make choices in life whether they are good or bad,but they always lead us to where we are meant to go.We can't rely on the past as it's just a memory of how things use to be. As Ashley Brilliant once said, "Nothing we do can change the past, but everything we do changes the future."

  61. Our past is like a butterfly effect because, everything we do in the past dictates what we do in the future. Life takes a hold over what you have already done and creates a future for you. In highschool if you weren't able to complete your community service you would not be able to graduate and that would affect who you are as a person. Life has a way of doing little things in the past to impact your future no matter good or bad. "learn from the past" is a way of saying do better and don't let your past define you, because sure enough life will.

  62. Every choice you have made and everything that has happened to you is why you are where you are today. Your past is important and it can have an impact on your future. It all depends what you do with your past that defines who you become in the future. Some people decide to hold on to their negative past and not grow as a person because they do not learn from their mistakes. Other people learn from their past mistakes and grow to become someone great in the future that does not let their past define them."Don't let your past dictate who you are, but let it be part of who you will become."

  63. There are three things we are most certain about in this life, our past, present and what we want for our futures. Past, present and future seem to already be in a fixed order, past, present, then future. So who are we to mess with this order and make it past then future? Everything we need to actually reach the future seems to be missing from "past to future." The work, the time, the determination is all apart of present moments that break or make your future! So, in order to reach your future self you need to be in touch with your present self. In other words the present time is what dictates who we become in our future. " yesterdays the past, tomorrows the future but today is a gift."

Our decisions impact our past, future, us, and others. Our decisions good or bad are what others see. If you have to many bad decisions they'll think your a criminal a bad person but that's not always the case. Sometimes we choose to do things to help the people we love we no matter the consequence but others don't know that. Sometimes people have a clean record and others think they're perfect but deep down inside they are hiding something. Their parents could pay money to keep their record clean. Or maybe they don't get caught doing all the mischievous things they do.

  65. Life is just a big cycle. Many younger people have role models which they try and be like. Some may follow in the bad footsteps and some may follow in the good and come out in a good position in life. You can follow and look up to a person but it's up to you to figure out if the things they did were good or bad choices. Its up to you to determine the best way to go."The future starts today, not tomorrow." Pope John Paul II

  66. Our pasts definitely contributes to the person we become in the future but however, it does not decide what we choose to become. For example, Being raised in a broken family can leave many problematic childhood affects on you but that does not mean that you'll have a dysfunctional family when you try to start one.
Just as C.S. Lewis once said,"You can't go back and change the beginning but you can start where you are and change the ending." You yourself have the ability to change no matter what your past holds.

  67. Our past does impact our future only if we allow it. We all grew up knowing we was going to make mistakes, but to always avoid making them."There are times in our lives when we have to realize our past is precisely what it is, and we cannot change it.But we can change the story we tell ourselves about it,and by doing that, we can change the future" by Eleanor Brown. Our past might not be perfect yet we can change our choices since we're living the future. It's important to always think about your future so the choices you make right now count.

  68. I agree that our past dictates who we become in our future. If you did something bad in the past, you can learn from it and do better in the future. Another reason because I agree with the statement is because if you do something bad right now then in the future you could be in jail, court or even dead. Mahatma Gandhi once said ¨the future depends on what we do in the present¨ which means your actions and everything you do right now is going to have an effect in the future. When people go to college and spend a lot of time in college their future will be really good because they spend time in learning and studying in the past.

We all have a past and future and decisions can affect that.It can also affect others and us as well. Many people look at others by the decisions they make. They look at our records and see a few bad things and instantly think we are criminals. But what they don't know is that we did it for a reason. sometimes we do it for the people we love but sometimes we do it for the wrong intentions but they never have the chance to hear our story

Our past does not dictate who we become in our future. Our future is determined by what we do present moment. We have a choose to change your path and change our life around. We have to let go of the past and live the future.Like Herman Hess said "some of us think holding on makes us strong, but sometimes it is letting go".

  72. Some people think, that what we do in our past defines who we are as a person, or who we will be in the future.this way of thinking makes us feel that it's to late to change or overcome our past and past mistakes we have made. But this simply isnt true yes, it's good to learn from your past mistakes so you aren't capable of repeating them. However, that doesn't mean that those mistakes should define who you are in total. The past is labeled as the past for a reason it's just a piece of written history, at some point it's time to let go and better ourselves become greater and more aware than our past selves have been. As said by Rick Warren, "we are product's of our past, but we dont have to be prisoners of it".

  74. Our past does not determine who we become in the future but it can influence it. It can be hard for some people to let go of their past and move forward. Our past helps us shape and grow for the future, it enhances us to be a better version of ourselves to what we were in the past. "The past is in your head, the future is in yours hands "

  75. Our past dictates who we become in our future. The past doesn't dictate who we become, we make that choose ourselves. As people, we choose who we want to be and our past experience helps mold us into that person. There are people who let their past control them but that's their decision. Those individuals are still choosing their own future, they just aren't fully conscious on their choice. We choose the paths we want to take and the futures we choose to live. Nick Portokalos once said, "Don't let your past dictate who you are, but let it be part of who you will become."

  76. Sometimes your past could lead to consequences in the future. Being cautious of what you do in the present is key to success in the future. You can't get where you are without making mistakes, decisions, and choices. A great quote from Frank Sonnenberg, "We can't do anything to improve our past, but we can learn from it to improve our future". With that being said don't dwell on your past just grow from it!

  77. The past heavily dictates who we become in the future. Throughout our lives we will inevitably make mistakes, but what defines us is how we move on our from our past experiences and decisions. “Scars have the strange power to remind us that our past is real.” ― Cormac McCarthy, All the Pretty Horses. This quote reflects that no matter what, our past will be a great reflection of who we are. The battles in the past will determine who we become, which is why our past define who we are and who we become.

  78. Our past dictates who we become in our future because we learn from our mistakes. The past makes you who you are today.Without the things in your past youd be a different person, maybe the past changed you for the best or the worst.Thats your choice to make but the past definitely impacts your future.

  79. “The past gives you an identity and the future holds the promise of salvation, of fulfillment in whatever form. Both are illusions.” I do believe the past could dictate a person's future. I also believe that you could change that also. I feel like if your unhappy with your past you can reflect on your past to make sure you do what's best for your future.

In my perspective it doesn't.Jamie Lee Curtis used to be addicted to painkillers and alcohol. She wanted to better herself for her and her daughter,so she entered a program. From the help of the program and other supportive people she was able to recover. She is 20 years sober now.Like Reggie Dabbs said,"You can't change your past, but you can learn from it and change the future".

  82. The past does not dictate who we will be in the future because you can always change or make a decision that changes everything. Just because of a bad past doesn't mean you can't change who you are. Many people realize who they will become if they don't change it won't turn out good. In a show, 60 days in, a participant named Abner was in a gang, latin Kingz, and was in prison for 14 years. When Abner got out of prison he said "I knew if I didn't change I was gonna end up in prison again or dead." The past doesn't dictate who we are gonna be because you can always change.

  85. Our past does dictate who we become in the future. Every aspect of our lives is a result of predetermined prior events. Everything we experience in our lives has brought us to this point and has shaped our thought of process. We make most of our life decisions based on our past experiences, whether we want to or not. Chuck Palahniuk once said “You realize that our mistrust of the future makes it hard to give up the past”

  86. There's without a doubt that someones past can rewrite their future.A bad past can change a persons view and decisions in life. If you were to talk to a gang member today and ask them why they joined or why they did what they did almost none of them will say " cause I wanted to ". People who make those kind of decisions see things that a normal being wouldn't and it's what causes them to make those choices thinking that it will better their life by forgetting those memories. Like Moscow said " live your life without a rear view mirror ".
