Conformity

Euripides states, "No man on earth is truly free. All are slaves of money or necessity. Public opinion or fear of prosecution forces each one, against his conscience, to conform." Do you agree or disagree with Euripides?  Why or why not?  Give specific reasons or examples.

  1. I agree because we have to do sometimes things we don’t like but they are necessary in order to achieve our goals, for example not many people like going to school but is necessary in order to be successful in life and get a carrier, and there is some that for money they do things they don’t like, but still do it in order for them to get where they want.

  2. I agree with Euripides because when it says "no man on earth is truly free. all are slaves of money or necessity"i think its saying that no man is really free because they have to work in order to make money or for a necessity. Which is true because if you want money and things that you need you have to work for it and earn it.

  3. I agree. we certanily are slaves to something wether it be striving for success, our homes, children, or anything we are passionate about. we are slaves too modern conviences such as cell phones, computers, all wireless devies. we spend our entire lives pluged into a wall attached to wireless devices.

  4. I agree due to the fact that the young men and women today are more concerned with upholding an image in the public eye to be accepted by people who probably don't know they exist. Both men and women work hard to buy the clothes necessary to fit into "society". Other men and women put themselves through a miserable 9-5 to afford a lifestyle that they grow acustom to.

  5. I agree with Euripides. When he says we are all slaves of money or neccesity, he means we are slaves to the things we want. Public fear basically means we are worried about what others will think of us. Sometimes we go against our conscience just to be accepted. We are being slaves to the ones we are trying to impress. Although I don't agree that we are not free. You are free to whatever you believe,it's a choice. If you choose to conform because of what you think others will think of you, then you are a slave.

  6. Everyone desires to fit in a crowd, we act like those we choose to follow. Everyone possesses some type of ambition, and it's not always easy to control a craving, so we often take the first thing that crosses through our eyes to look superior or the same as our peers.

  7. Great posts!!! I love the many angles this quote can be viewed. Great job!!! Very well said DWalker4. I also agree with JAlcocer6, "I think its saying that no man is really free because they have to work in order to make money or for a necessity." We all have needs and wants, and the only way that we can get what we want or need is to work for it. Therefore, you have to be a slave to someone or something in order to get what you need and/or want. Although DWalker4 might slightly disagree :)

  8. I agree with the statement of Euripides. No man on earth is truly free. You have to work with what you have and work for something you don't believe in. A man is wrongly accuse for the people that the man is around. For example, you can have a friend and not know who they truly are. A friend who does dealings with trouble people. The friend tells the man to meet him at a place. The man shows up and instead of the friend, the police was there. The police put the man in handcuffs and sent the man to jail for life.

  9. I agree with Euripides, because no one has the liberty to do what ever they want to do. For example people create rules to live better. By doing this they keep the people from doing certain things. Countries, homes, and tribes have rules to follow. So that's why I think that no one in this world is truly free.

  10. I also agree with Europides, because we are all not what you call "free". We are slaves because we work and we work for what we want and or need, nothing in life is free or given.

  11. Great point made ACruz5! "People create rules to live better. By doing this they keep people from doing certain things." If everyone was truly free to what they wanted, then there would be total chaos.

  12. I agree with Europides, because us as students are not free at school we are not allowed to wear anything we want we all have to wear uniforms. And even though everyone says america is a free country it really isn't us as hispanics don't have the same freedom as everyone else. Some live day to day scared of getting deported we depend on luck to stay here.

  13. I disagree with Euripides. I believe that the outside looks don't matter more than what's inside of you. Society does not corrupt us to be limited with freedom. We can choose to be afraid or we can stand up for ourselves and speak our mind. This situation is like the women's rights movement, women were to be paid less and not allowed to vote but by speaking their mind and standing up they changes the system because they too were entitles to an opinion. They did not let them deprive them just because they were women.

  14. I agree with Euripides because conformity is necessary to function a community, one example of conformity is the laws that are made. Some people disagree with them, but are still are expected to follow them. Another example is politics, democrat or republican you won't always agree with all their policies.

  15. I also agree, because we are all not what you call free. We are slaves because we work for what we want and or need, nothing in life is free or given. An their is always someone at your door waiting to collect money from you.

  16. I agree because everyone has the neccesary to work to get what they want for example we work to get food, shelter, money, nothing is given free.

  17. Its basically stating that euripides believes that no man is truly free on earth and i agree because they are not until death because if men are free they would just have the write to do anything they wouldnt take the place of being there as a father, son,or grandson or even grandpa they would take over without a doubt,at least most of them, but in society there are lots of man having to work to support thier families and do things that they dont think or want to do thats why I totally agree.

  18. I agree. We are not truly feee from nothing. Theirs things we have to do in life that we don't want to, but that's part of nature. We are slaves, waking up every morning to go to work or school. Sometimes we don't want to, but in order to succesed in life we have to be slaves for the money at the end.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I agree because everyone does need money in order to buy the things they need and pay the bills of the household. We are also slaves because we don't speak our minds and tell people what we think well most of us. When we do speak our minds there are consequences, there for we stop giving our options. Others just stop obeying and listening to what people are saying to them.

  20. I agree with Euripides. Every human being is not truly free they are slaves of money and necessity. To work you have to have a boss which makes you a slave of money. Money is a necessity because for anything you need money is involved and you have to work for it which makes you a slave for necessity. I also agree with Euripides because of public opinion people do things they are not very comfortable doing which makes them a slave of peer pressure.

  21. I agree with Europides because it is true everytime somebody has money they always want to work more and more to get more money and they become addicted that at the end they end up getting old and grumpy and sometimes with no money at all.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree with this because it is true, people have to work in order to have money and fill their necessities. We can be slaves in a way that we work for someone else, but also getting paid. On the other hand we aren't really free like people say because if it was up to us we could talk to customers and act the way we want to at work, but since we don't then we wouldn't be able to say or do anything because it's a job and your getting paid.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I agree with Euripides. We are all slaves on this earth. We work to satisfy our wants and needs. We try to be like one another because of the fear of being judged for being who we really are. We don't realize it sometimes but the truth is we try to fit in. We dress like everybody else, we talk like everybody else and act like everybody else. I also disagree in a way. We shouldn't settle for what we have, we should strive for more and better ourselves and our lives.

  24. I would have to agree with the euripides because in some point in life money is an issue. It's all around us out in the real world. Necessity is the effect of that dilemma. Public opinion, as well as money issues also seems to occur each and every day. Therefore, the phrase "no man is truly free" makes perfect sense to me.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree with the Euripides beacause in order to be successful in life you need to follow the rules that are given to you. The sentence "Public opinion or fear of prosecution forces each one, against his conscience, to conform," reminds me of the saying "follow the crowd and you will never be followed by a crowd."I strongly agree that no man on earth is truly free because there's not one thing in life that will be free, to have to work hard in order to achieve.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I agree with Euripe its true how he states that "no man is truly free", because there is rules and also consequences so basically we are not free to do whatever we want. For example we cant have facial piercings at school thats why i agree.

  27. I agree with the Euripides. I believe that no man is truly free. They all have to work or for a necessity. Nothing in this world is free or given to you therefore, you have to work for it.

  28. DPerez2 I agree with the statement. Euripides says that "No man on is truly free." because most people have been treated badly most of their lives. We are still slaves by the way we treat other people and how those people treat us in our lives. One example is the aftermath of the Civil Rights Movement, most people are still being treated as slaves by the wrong crowd.

  29. I do agree with JAlcocer6, because anything we have and do is worked for nothing is free. Sometimes blessings come but for the most part anything you have is earned.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I agree. We are all slaves to certain things. If its achieving for things we want or things we need. Some are slaves to money, work, education,or even the small things like phones or computers. But at the end of the day we are all slaves to something.

  31. I Agree. Man has always been a slave for money. What is money?. Its something made up to keep people busy, to enslave them with something that you have to have in this country to be noticed. Without money you are no one, people work and work just to get this imaginary paper to live the way they live. Also, people turn away from their most important human nature... their conscience. People say its wrong to be gay and that they should be punished, just because they say these things a gay person acts straight just to avoid this, maybe because they are scared of what those people might say.

  32. I agree with Euripides quote.. no one but i mean no is free, here in US nor, in other Countries either, we all may think we are here in america but truely in the down side we are not. we have to do what we have to do to be successful and that is following what the laws have us doing now a days, it good in some ways like school, dont want to do it but with..no school, your stupid,so the you cant do nothing with your life, here in the US, so that's good they have that on us ha. but yea money has us on our knees. we are working so much and so hard not even noicting we are slave ourselfs. without money you're nothing and wont be nothing so again we'll do all we can to get money to be successful.((:

  33. I agree with Euripidies. We are all slaves of money or necessity. If we had too much freedom to do and have whatever we wanted we would end up in chaos. Our laws give us organization and helps us to be more civilized. I think the rules and laws we live by makes everyones life alot more safer and easier.

  34. I agree with Euripides, because the statement "No man on earth is truly free" makes sence. If you want something in this world you have to work for it, nothing is free. An we are definitely slaves because we work like one but in this case you can stop at anytime. But your going to live the life that no one wants which is living in the streets. So might as well work so u can get money and get some of the things you want not all.

  35. I agree with Euripides, "No man is truly free" because the society that we live in we still have to pay taxes and obey laws that are made for us by a higher power. For instance, even the president has people, standards, and expectations he has to meet in order to stay in his position. So if man was truly free with no boundaries or laws how would society really act, would it turn on itself. " Public opinion or fear of prosecution forces each one, against his conscience, to conform." I agree, if one were to break a law or speak their opinion the fear of being prosecuted is always the first thought so society conforms.

  36. I agree with the Euripides, because we all slave to have the things we want in life.It doesn't matter how hard the work is or if we even like it.We all do it to be successful and to live up to the the public's eye and while doing that we forget our values and will sometimes do anything that is against what we believe in because we are concerned what people say about us.

  37. I agree with this quote. We work everyday. What if we stop working? ? How will we support family? Who will pay for college? We are not free when we have to work. We all are slaves to money and finance. For example, before Hitler came to power in Germany, the Germans were getting beat by the Jews, not physically but financially. So when Hitler took control, he went against his conscience and prosecuted the Jews. We are driven by money and we can never be free.

  39. I agree because sometimes we have to do things we don't want to b successful in life, for instance if you have a job u hate but u need the money then u have to stick with that job till you find a better one. Nothing is free in this world

  41. i Agree with this, the reason being is because everyone has a need, or want. To get what we want or need, there is most likely money involved to get whats needed. Society is the biggest reason why we give in. The media plays a huge role in making us believe we need something when we honestly don't. Therefore no man is free due to the public.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I agree with Euripides because when people go to school or job we are slaves for our money or good grades to better ourselves. When he say "No man on earth is truely free", he means everywhere we go we have to follow rules and obey or we have to suffer the consequence.Public fear means like if you make a mistake you try to fix it before anyone else finds out to make yourself look better.

  43. I agree with Euripides, because people are ran by money. There's people that are controlled by money, power and greed.Witch in a way they are in-slaved to make more and the more they get the more they feel powerful.

    ReplyDelete
  44. i agree..Euripides is EEVVEERRYYWHERE..Yes,we have our rights, but everywhere you go there are still rules you have to go by.A perfect example is Burger King. You have to where those hats, blacks shoes, the same pants and shirt as everyone else, and your hair pulled back. I don't know why they say "Have it your way =D".. -___- Well, the workers sure can't have it there way..

  45. I agree with Euripides. When he says "No man on earth is truly free. all are slaves of money or necessity. What I think he means is that in order to be free we have to succeed, if we don't succeed we get in the necessity of work, maybe to earn some money and pay bills or something, then we become slaves. but succeeding makes life way easier. Therefore succeeding makes us free of any necessity, for example, a graduated student from college succeeds and gets his/her diploma and makes life easier, he or she is free of any problem, but we never know if there's a time when we get to the necessity of something.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I agree because to do something you must follow rules, and those rules are telling you things you can, must do, or can not do. To me thats not being free or unslaved.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I agree with him because they claim that we have all this freedom, but yet we have to live by some rules. We can't just get up and do whatever we want we have some type of restrictions.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I agree because, with no rules, who knows what this world would of become

    ReplyDelete
  49. Euripides has a great point in our minds we all like to think that we are completely free, which we are not. I wouldn't necessarily say we are slaves but we will always work under a higher power. Where we are always working to make it on a day to day basis and are afraid to speak our mind with fear of the consequences.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I agreed on Euripides because most people are slaves to the money and most people are scared of opinion.people have to follow the law there fore we can't do what we want.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I agree with Euripides, the world is all about rules. No one has liberty to do do what they want to do. For example people have to wear certain clothing for school & jobs. In life you have to be a slave to someone or something to be successful. Nothing is given. You get what you work for.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I agree with Euripides because no one is really "free". We are all slaves because everyone works every day in some way, whether its our parents at their jobs or us at school. We are slaves because when we want something we just can't go to the store and get it like its free, we have to work to get the money we need in order to buy it. We may think of a job as a daily routine in order for us to get money for what we want to buy and for what we need to pay, but in reality if you look at it in a different point of view, you can see that we all work most of our lifes maybe 8,9,10 hours a day? So really we all work because we need to, we need the money for us, our family, etc. I think that we shouldn't call ourselves free because we arent, we just think of ourselves as free in a certain way. Also we sometimes have to do something we arent confortable with, maybe at work we have to clean the restrooms or maybe we dont like our classes, but we know we have to do what we have to in order to get by and to live a happy, "free" life.

    ReplyDelete
  53. In a way, I would have to agree with Euripides. On the other hand, this statement would not necessarily apply to every individual. I agree in the sense that people have to work in order to have certain needs met. Not only do people have to work, but they are also concerned or afraid of the opinions of others. Therefore, people will tend to work harder to obtain bigger and better things. On the other hand, there are people that have made some 'not so wise decisions' or have gone through some tragic event leaving them without family or homes. These people might not be slaves of money or might not even be concerned with public opinion, but they are homeless. They sleep where they please and depend solely on charities or good deeds of others to dress and eat. This is the reason why I would have to agree in a way, but not completely.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I agree because we dont live in a free country, because we have to follow rules.Because if we dont follow rules how are we goin to make our money to get what we want.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I agree because no one is free, some how it may seem like we are but we are not. There's plenty of rules we have to follow, and even though it may seem like a bad thing for most of us is not. That's why everything isn't all that dangerous because people know they're will be consequences if we didn't follow the rules.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I agree with Euripides because its true when it says "No man on earth is truly free. All are slaves of money or necessity", so from my understanding he is saying that everyone wants money and everyone has needs, so they work to get those things. In the second part it says "Public opinion or fear of prosecution forces each one, against his conscience, to conform." what i understand from this is that everyone wants to get accepted by the public or friends or anybody in general, so what they do in order to get accpeted is go agaisnt what they believe or what is right for them.

  57. I agree because we all want todo what others are doing we are all band waggoners were always too busy trying to fit in rather to stand out .

    ReplyDelete
  58. I agree with Euripides because in order to make money you got to work hard for it like slaves did back then therefore we are all slaves of money.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I Agree. Our minds do think alike every person is a slave it don't matter what color they are, but everybody will or have worked all the time in any case.If we didn't have rules, we would't even be wearing any type of uniform in school right now.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I belive Euripides ,simply because it is true because if you are at ,home or at school your are like a slave in some manner . At school you are treated like a slave because you have to wear uniform . If you do not wear the uniform at school you will not get in the school or they will send you home. Also out side of the school in the comunity you have to get a job or else you ytou wont have any money you have to have a boss in order to have a job so .If you are in or out of school you are treated like a slave . That is what I think

  61. "No one is truly free" Makes humans a special species. They have a limit in what they can do, physically and mentally. These limits restrict their freedom. Euripides is telling use we humans are only humans. I defiantly agree with him. The only thing with complete freedom of everything is a god.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I agree with Euripides, because we all work for a living just like the slaves did. Nothing in life is free. We all need something. When Euripides said "Public opinion or fear of prosecution forces each one, against his conscience, to conform." it also saying we're all afraid of what other thinks about our personal decisons and likes , like for example in your workplace you didnt like the salary, dresscode, the money you earn, or what you doing is illegal. you probably are afraid of what others may think about your decision or your public opinion may get in somewhat trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I one hundred percent agree, with the Euripides. Because no man or woman is really free. Its telling you that man and women are slaves to money becasue, we work all day and night to make money to buy things and stuff.. No man or woman can do what they really want like stay home all day with the family, becasue they need money for a place to live etc.. No one can rob a bank or do crazy things becasue they have to follow the law, and if you brake that law you go to prison or even die. So people are scared to do those things for that reason, so in reality no man or woman is really free...

    ReplyDelete
  64. I agree with the Euripides because it is true we all have to work like slaves for money and our neccesities. We have towork all day just to get a pay check and pay the bills, and to have food on the table.Through out the whole life of a human bein it's work work work.So I would have to say i strongly agree with this passage.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I agree with Euripides, because no one has the right to do what they want, if we did then the world would be a disaster, another reason is because many people are not responsible for their actions.I Believe we are all slaves of money and necessity because sometimes we are too tired to work or to go to school and sometimes we feel like giving up on everything, but we have to go in order to be successful in life and to have a better future and more opportunities.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I agree because if we didnt have rules or limits everything in this world would be different and the world would be different because of the people. People also want to get to places and want stuff for there personal needs n before they get it they have to go to instructions or rules.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I agree with Euripides becuase we all are slaves of money. When we work in a job we are forced to follow rules which shows how we will do whatever it takes to recieve money and also shows how we are slaves. And also money is a necessity because without it you can't do anything in life which is why we are really slaves becuase we have to do whatever it takes to get the money.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I honestly agree with the statement above , yes no man on earth is truly free mainly because they have to work for their money and sometimes very hard. Not just men woman as well they sometimes have to work very hard for the things they want for example like single mothers. Even us "teens" we are slaves to the money because we have to work some times in order to support our families.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I agree because you cant live without money if you never have money then you'll never have the things you need as Euripides said "All are slaves to money and or necesity". He couldn't have put it any better cause nothing in life is ever free you'll always have to work for what you want. And to Dgomez6 they still had to work for it, the law didn't just read their mind and it happend.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I agree with euritides becuase everybody in this world has to do what they got to do to make money to survive. Nothing in this world is free or given to you, you have to work for it. We all have to follow rules and take orders from someone, its just the way life is. So technically no man on this earth is truely free.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I agree with Euripides because in order to have money we have work for other people. Were we have certain things to follow even if we don't like it. Like at what time you have to get there or the way to dress. This shows some way we are slave to money. Even if we don't like it we have needs where money comes in.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I agree wit the statement because no one is free theirs people that been workin there whole live for there needs. Now men and women work to support there family.Like for example some family can't afford to have phones or what they want and they have to work to get a phone and for there needs. We also have to follow some ones rules at work and follow what they tell us because that's were we get our money to support our family and the needs they need.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I agree. I think i speak for all of us when I say that we most definitely aren't 'free'. We have to depend on our jobs to earn money, we have to depend on money to live. We have to abide by rules, laws, and procedures. Indeed, no man is free. someone or something always has to depend on someone or something else in order for something to function properly; In this case,Our way of being and living.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I disagree, because of the fact that we choose our own actions even if it's against rules or laws we decide to be followers or leaders no matter the circumstances in which we live in. For example about the uniforms we decide to wear them we have the option of wearing them or simply refusing to attend that school.
