Deepest Fear

In the movie Coach Carter, a quote by Marianne Williamson was used by one of the players.  "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?'...."  Respond to the above quote.  How does this quote relate to you or how does this quote relate to life and the individual's struggle with who they are.

  2. SHenderson8 said this quote can relate to many people that are still trying to find their place in life. Many times an individual puts theirselves down by telling theirselves that they can't do this or they can't do that because their not smart enough, or their not atheletic enough, or their too short or too tall. People should realize that anything you put your mind to, you can accomplish. Although many people may have said this cliche a thousand times, it is still very true to this day.

  3. I see this post as what I see in the movie. People are not understanding to injoy your life and make the best of it by not messing it up by skipping classes and going out doing the wrong things. We the students just need to go and get our education so we can be successful in our lives and better for our future.

  4. JYeefoon8 Said this quote is very true when it comes to teenagers these days. Reason being is that we are steady trying to find ourself and figure out how we are going to give back to society instead of going our ways we tend to follow others even though we dont realise it.

  5. In response to JYeefoon8... Just like Coach Carter asked Timo, "What is your deepest fear?" This is the ultimate question. Even though at times we do not realize certain things, we surpress those things that make us "powerful beyond measure." Just like Timo Cruz, he had the desire to play basketball but surpressed those desires because of other outside influences. What is fear? When you fear something what do you normally do? Who says that YOU can not be great? Why cant YOU lead? What is it about YOU (us) that you (we) fear or feel is inadequate? Good postings so far? Feel free to respond back :)

  6. In the individuals mind, they tend to think they are not good enough to reach what they desire due to the fact they fear what others have to think about them or say because of how he/she is living their life and set their standards low for themselves like Timo Cruz in the movie,"Coach Carter". He lives a life as a delinquent but really loves basketball and is good at it. Consequently, he thinks he is inadequate due to his background and keeps giving up and leaving the team.

  7. We are not afraid to succeed we are afraid to fail. We are afraid to try and fail so people just quit and fail. But we are capable of great things only if we try. "Whether you think you can or can't ,you're right."(Henry Ford)

  8. Its not that were inadequate its just that we fear our selfs to exced into more. Although there is the fear that were not good enough but we have to over come that to accomplish our goals.

  9. Good post JGuerrero8 and great use of quote MGalicia8. Fear of failure is a human flaw, but just like the above quote continues on and says, "Your playing small does not serve the world." Everyone fears failure, but is that a good enough reason to not give your all? In support of what JGuerrero8 said, Timo Cruz is an excellent example of this. His fear was being held captive of his past and what it had to offer him. It is not easy escaping a certain lifestyle, but sometimes things do happen (His family member is killed - although tragic) that gives us another opportunity to "be brilliant." I love the great responses!

  10. This quote can apply to every human being. it also applies to me.Many people think they are not as good as other people and fear to exceed into more. Although there is fear of being and exceeding our selves we have to over come that fear and accomplish our goals.

  14. We live in a world where there's a certain image you have to fit. If you fall out the picture, you're rejected to a point where society chooses your destiny; without you given choice. But what the ignorant monster doesn't know is that when you are born, that's your call. Your given the chance to be someone. That's your call to be who ever and whatever you want to be. Regardless of what you look like, changing your attitude about yourself is the only key to being succesfull in your doing. We're afraid when we reach that point, people will fight to bring our mentality down: and may succeed in doing it. All because we're afraid to be humiliated when we reached to full potential. But life is not about making him happy, or her look or be like you. It's about you making you happy and living to your wellness and best Image you can be. Doing so, you inspire others to do the same, and the ''perfect portrait'' turns into a collage where everyone fits. So we must acknowledge the shine in everyone to be able to truly love anyone and ourselves...... Sasha F!erce

This quote means alot because there are alot of teenagers that are like Kruz in this world. They don't have to necessary be a drug dealer, but every child have to go threw the stage trying to find themselves.I can't speak for every teenager on what they fear, but my only fear is that I have no fear.Yes I know its kind of crazy but thats just me.

  16. This quote can be taken in many ways by the people that can relate to it.Wether to say they are afraid of the world,or afraid of being who they are because they might not fit in a group in which they would want to belong to.

  19. This quote relates to many people in the world. Everyone has the ability to strive and be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous but we are afraid of shinning. We are afraid of the good that comes from our success, we are afraid of the expectations that are put upon us, and we are afraid of all the things we give up to be that brilliant, gorgeous, talented, or even famous person. We are afraid that we can not give up our comfort time in order to study to keep the title as brilliant. We are afraid of the things we have to do in order to be that great person we or our parents wish upon us.

    ReplyDelete
  20. This quote relates to us because we are afraid of everything we do or are in life. If we are too powerful than things might go wrong but if we aren't powerful then we have nothing. If we are too brilliant then we stop trying to do better because we think we are already better, but if we don't try hard then we are not smart.

  21. Our greatest fear isn't that we can shine or that we're not able to but instead that there is always the possibility of failure. No likes to fail and no one wants to fail. Many people don't want to try and then fail, so instead many people don't even try. Our greatest fear is that we already have many failures and problems and many of us don't want one more added.

    ReplyDelete
  22. To MRodriguez1... That is exactly what Marianne Williamson meant when she said, "Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure." We are indeed afraid of the power that lies within us.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Well this quote goes for everyone because everyone wants to fit in. Everyone is able to achieve what they want, they can make something of themselves. But people these days especially teenagers care to much about what people think, so they bring themselves down. They think they arent good enough when they are the greatest. Especially if they have failed alot. We are just afraid that if we succeed in something other people might not think its not good enough so we bring ourselves down or we might not even try to succeed because we are afraid to fail. We should strive for the best and then we will realize that success is something to look forward to no matter what everyone else thinks or what the outcome is.

  24. This quote means that a person should never be afraid of success. A person should not be afraid of what he or she desires in life. The quote in the movie Coach Carter teaches us to work towards what we want. You may have to struggle but at the end it will be well worth it.Do not let something hard be an obstacle in working hard. Do not think that you are powerful and things should be handed to you, everyone earns what they get.

  25. This Quote is saying that we are afraid to excel because people might think that we are trying to better that them but in reality were holding in our glory so people wont be envy of our genius.

  26. Anybody has the right to be who and what they want to be.Its the fact that most people are scared of what will be the outcome of their actions. They are sometimes afraid that they will not live up to what they are made out to be.

  27. I must agree with you ALona8 :)

  28. The thing about holding any amount of power is the ability to lose it or to have it taken away from you. If we are inadequate, we have something to strive towards. If we are too powerful, there is nothing to look forward to. If we are powerful then we hold the responsibility to use it for ethical reasons. This quote relates to me because once I am successful at something and I rise above all, I feel pressure to continue to excel and the fear of failure starts to linger. I become vulnerable to failure. This is only a matter of overcoming the perception of incompetency.

  29. This quote can relate to many people. Most people see themselves as inadequate, because of the problems they've been through and seen. Such as Timo Cruz who couldn't decide between basketball or drugs selling. We're afraid of the "light" because we don't know what will happen and who will judge us, so that's why many strive on the darkness. We fear the expections set upon us, and we fear how society would treat us. We're afraid to fail. That's why we must see our power and "light" so we can prosper.

  30. Nobody never knows what they really are capable of doing until they try. If you do not try then you will never know. When you do find out what you really are capable of doing you will be amazed. You would have never imagined that you could do more than you thought could.

  31. This quote relates to me in many ways because as a teenager I have many thoughts of what I want to do when I am an adult. My deepest fear is that I will not be able to be powerful beyond measure. I can reach my goals of going to college and getting a degree if I just see the "light" inside of me.

    ReplyDelete
  32. To OChavez1... You are already powerful beyond measure... Growing up is just all about letting your light shine and liberating others :)

  33. This quote can relate to many people. To me it means people should not be afraid to succeed in life. But most are afraid to be great, not because they think they can not do it but because they fear rejection or failure. Once people gain that inside confidence (shining light) they can overcome and be great in life. Then they can inspire others to be great and let their light shine.

  34. This Quote can relate to alot of young people who's lifes are messed up this can help people understand when you are going through something, you should make your life alot more better.Like Timo Cruz he couldnt decide what to do with his life.He was lost was going through somethings thats why for him to get his life together was to play the game he love was basketball.

  35. This quote can really relate to many people in the world, especially teenagers that are trying to find themselves. People are capable of having success but are afraid of it. They don't know what to do with it or are afraid that people may try to block the blessing you are recieving. Instead of worrying about the worst case scenario, we should be joyful about what we recieve.

  36. This quote can relate to many people. Some people don't work to their full potential which gives them the mentality that they can't do anything. If you are determined to do something and you give it your all you won't sit there and question yourself. In this world there is all kinds of people. People that know where they stand, and others that don't have a clue. It all depends on the person, either you go on the mission to find yourself and built the confidence, or you sit there and expect someone to hand it to you.

  37. This relates to those who are afraid of life. Espacially to teens that have problems, they believe that they can't succeed in life. Instead they should try to believe in themselfs and avoid the obsticles. Even if they get rejected they should never give up and try to overcome their fear and reach for their goals.

  38. We are afraid to be brilliant, because brilliance is unmesaurable, undefinable, and uneasy to control. It is much easier for us to follow the norms than to be truely individuals who are defined by their own actions. It is only when we can find ourselves, that we will know what it means to be unique, fearless, and unstoppable.

  39. This Quote relates to each of us because its a quote we use to strive to excellence, to go beyond what we see as the limits of our abilities, to reach for the stars and do more than just 'hope'. Fear can get in the way of what we are trying to aim. Many of us let the downs get the best of us. We should believe in our selfs to achieve in what we are trying to see ourselfs in the future .I believe within each person their is the knowledge and power to over come our fears in life.

  40. This relates to the teenagers life in today's society. Society has shown these young individuals one way to live (the light). They, The teenagers have no choice, but to try to fit in. Friqhtened that if they do opposite society would not accept them, So their inner self is hidden (the darkness). With these individual's thoughts they're giving society the power beyond measure. These individuals should take control and overcome the fear of not fitting in, and succeed in their OWN life. Even If society does not accept them.

  41. This Quote relates to me because It means that you are afraid of what you are called to do with yourself in your life and that you are afraid to achieve your goal. Fear can be overcome if you believe in yourself. Nobody said life was going to be easy, but just keep your head up like your nose is bleeding.

  42. This quote can relate to people that usually try to not speak their minds and they try not to receive the attention from others. Like when a student is in class and doesn't participate because the person fears being called a "nerd" or a "know it all". Such remarks can keep a student from participating and showing how brilliant the student can actually be.

  44. The quote above relates to me and my generation in many ways. We tend to see all of the glitz and glam of celebrities lives and we think they are blessed to be famous and have an amazing life. We think that we will never be good enough to become as successful as any famous person. We feel as if we have to live up to certain standards of our peers. We care about what others think or say about us. In the end it's all about living our lives for ourselves and not for someone else.

  47. The quote above states that we fear ourselves of being worthy for something greater then what we as humans put out to be. Although we could claim that we are content with the life we are bestowed, we could always do better. Achieving greatness should be nothing to be ashamed of. Settling is what we are trained to do. Our sluggish ways and opinions of others, have brought us to a destination of self conciousness and second guesses of how we should live our lives. Breaking the cycle of self doubt is what society needs. Who knows what the worlds hidden talent and shine could offer. The only way to find out is to have self confidence and bring upon the light within ourselves.

    ReplyDelete
  48. It relates to life, because we never know what we could really be if we put our mind to it. We waste our talent by doing things that wont lead to success. We are most afraid of what people may think of us rather than what we really want to do that makes us happy.....

  51. One of the biggest fears people have is being great/being themselves. They are afraid of being themselves because their scared of being persecured for their talent or they fear they won't be able to live up to other's expectations.

  52. It relates to life because most people fear the things in life they are actually good at. And the things they shouldnt do be the main thing on their mind. Our biggest fear i with then...But the Bible says fear is a way of distracting the Lord love he has for us.So i really have any fears in life because if you believe in Jesus there is nothing to be afraid of...

  53. Most people are capable of great things but they do not like to show it. They might think that whatever it is that they are good at, is not enough to help others. Or they might think that if they give away all they have, then maybe their unique talent won't be so unique after all. And maybe that is why people do not like to show the best in them.

But regardless or not you're just living the life you want to be and will be one day. Just remember that by keeping your head up you'll make the right decision throughout your life..

I am making up in my mind from this point foward I will go all out in my races and leave it all on the TRACK, so that I can achieve one my life time goals which is to attend the University Of Texas At Austin on a full ride scholarship.(:

  57. This quote doesn't necessarily pertain only to teenagers but to all human beings. Every single person is afraid of being able to surpass their own achievements; giving their lives no meaning afterwards. It's your goal the one that makes you get up every morning motivating you, pushing you to the best of your abilities. Without a goal, your life would be meaningless; everyone has something or somewhere they want to be. After achieving your goal and tasting its victorious flavor, that same glorious flavor will then turn into the most bitterest flavor known to men.

  58. To me this means that we shouldnt fear success just beacuse we think we dont deserve it. Everybodys fear is FAILURE, thats why people are so concentrated on being perfect and doing the right thing when in reality they have what it takes to be succesful and to do it with very little effort at all.

  59. This quote relates a lot to me, especially in my teenage years. As I mature I look back and see when I put myself down and allowed others influence to change me. It was a time when I was the best of the best but yet doubted myself and quit, and now trying to make up for that mistake. I was so caught up in my success that I was too embarrassed to fail and learn, which only made me fail unconsciously. Concluding that everyone has once fell behind this quote, but can only fail to learn and become better.

  60. Our light, or what we do best, is what frightens us the most by doing the bare minimum of what we do best does not help ourselves or the world just to make other people feel comfortable around you. When someone does the very best that they can it inspires others to do the same making them do their best and surpassing what they have done before. Everybody should let their light shine because everyone is important in their own way, everyone can contribute to society and speak their mind not being afraid of what someone will say.

  61. This quote relates to many individuals life because now in days teens are afraid of success. They know they have what it takes to be under the spotlight but the fear of what others may say is always there to hold them back. The thing is that others are always going to talk no matter what – either you’re too good or not good at all. What others say should never hold a person back because no one ever knows with what intention they’re saying it. They may be there to support you or “be there” to keep you from succeeding.

  62. This quote has many meanings. What i gathered from the quote is that although we may hesitate in dark times, we tremble at the rise of great oppurtunities bestowed upon us. We know our consequences in doing wrong, but nobody ever knows the rewards for doing right. We run through the darkness as though a light is showing us the way, but run through the light with our eyes closed tight.

When reading this quote it reminds me that each of us as teenagers must strive to the top, go beyond what we see as the limits of our abilities, reach for the stars and do more than just "hope" that things will get better. Must of us teenagers don't work up to our potential , we think things are hard and give up or just don't even attempt to do it. We must strive for the best, strive for the top , set goals high, because when you put your heart into it you can achieve anything you want. You can become anything you want , just stop giving pity to yourself. Don't let anyone tell you you can't do it because you can become anyhing you want if you set your mind towards it.
